ANGERS, MEDIEVAL CAPITAL – 3 hours
Angers has a particularly rich medieval heritage, marked by the monumental construction of Blanche de Castille, the granddaughter of Eleanor of Aquitaine: the fortress and the long city wall over 4 km in length. There are also numerous examples of Angers Romanesque (the former bishopric, Saint Aubin abbey and Ronceray abbey) and Gothic (Saint Maurice cathedral, Saint Serge abbey church) art.

ANGERS, CAPITAL OF TAPESTRY – 3 hours
Angers has a page in the history of tapestry. The Apocalypse tapestry, the largest woven work from the medieval era, evokes the last book of the Bible written by St John. Angers is worth the journey for its two famous tapestries alone: in Blanche de Castille’s monumental château, you can admire the Apocalypse tapestry, commissioned by the queen in 1377 and made up of 70 panels. At the Jean Lurçat museum, you can discover another work: the Song of the World, created from 1957 onwards and inspired by the famous 14th-century tapestry, not to forget the temporary exhibitions by contemporary designers at the Contemporary Tapestry Museum.
